Church Hill Elementary principal Richard Hutson turned his hair green after students read and tested more than 1,000 books Friday.
CHURCH HILL - Students at Church Hill Elementary completed a reading challenge Friday that turned principal Richard Hutson's hair green with envy.
The school participated in the nation-wide
Accelerated Reader testing day, Coast to Coast Challenge.
Hutson agreed to wear his hair
green to school for a day if the students could read and test 1,000
books by the end of the school day Friday.
There were students carrying books and reading in every corner
of the school.
Totals were counted and announced each hour as the kids
At 2:35 p.m. the final count was in, and the entire
school erupted in cheers as Mr. Hutson gave the announcement.
Hill Elementary students had met and exceeded their goal by reading
1,097 in one day.
