The name of a business can either tell you what it can or can't do. That is one reason for the interesting title of 620 State Restaurant.
"It's hard to find a name that encompasses all of the food that we serve," operating partner Rafael Zabala said. "We do a little bit of everything as well as live music, so it's really hard to find a name that really fits the span of everything that we do. So just using the address is good for that."
620 State, as a restaurant, offers an array of dishes from classic American food to stir fry dishes -- recipes from Stir Fry Cafe in Knoxville that are 22-year-old recipes -- and sushi.
"We basically have a little bit of something, as far as food is concerned, to offer to everyone," Zabala said. "I don't think you can come in and look at the menu and not find something that you are going to want to eat."
The menu items are pulled from the Stir Fry Restaurant Group.
"A lot of people don't realize that we are part of the Stir Fry Restaurant Group," Zabala said. "So we started out as Stir Fry Cafe 22 years ago in Knoxville and we have evolved into Stir Fry in Kingsport, 112 in Johnson City and 620 State (in Bristol)."
Those same menu items are available for any event that might need to be catered.
"We cater food that is on our 620 menu, as well as any other item that our client might want. Anything from Asian to Italian to barbecue," Zabala said.
If you don't have the space to hold an event, 620 offers that too. Just above 620 State is the Event Foundation Facility. They have catered events such as weddings, business functions and fundraisers.
"Above 620 State, there is an event facility which consists of three rooms that can hold events for anywhere from 10 people all the way up to 400 people," Zabala said.
Another thing that 620 State has to offer is live music on Friday nights. The restaurant brings in larger acts from out of state to try and draw people to the downtown area. They are looking forward to the opening of a new attraction downtown and have taken note of different bands to bring in for the upcoming year.
"We have been talking to a lot more country bands coming up in 2014," Zabala said. "We are really anticipating the opening of the Birthplace of Country Music Museum. ... That's going to be a huge draw for Bristol. So you can go to the Museum and then come listen to some great live music at our place."
There is no rush to chow down on your dinner to enjoy the music either.
"We try to start the music a little earlier so that you can have dinner and finish up around 9:30 and the music starts between 9:30 and 10 p.m."
Friday isn't the only special night at 620 State. On Tuesdays, they offer half-off sushi. The following night, on Wednesdays, they offer half-off bottles of wine.
