Escaped inmate captured in Johnson City

An escaped inmate has been captured in Johnson City, according to a press release.

Joshua Baber, 24, walked away from a minimum custody work detail in Mountain City on Thursday. He was captured in Johnson City on Friday.

Agents with the Tennessee Department of Correction, Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, Tennessee Highway Patrol and the Johnson County Sheriff's Department combined both efforts and resources to search for and capture Baber.

Baber, who was convicted in Blount and Sevier Counties for burglary, kidnapping and theft of property, had seven years remaining on his sentence.

Baber was transported back to Northeast Correctional Complex in Mountain City. He could face an additional five years for the escape, which would be added to his current sentence. Details of his escape are under investigation, the release stated.
