Kingsport man sentenced in chase that severely injured VSP trooper

Jason T. Byrns, of Kingsport, was ordered to serve an active sentence of 59 years and 12 months in prison by 30th Circuit Court John Kilgore for his role in an April 2013 chase and wreck that left VSP Trooper Jamie Lawson with a severe injuries.


Byrns pleaded guilty in Nov. 2013 to over a dozen charges, including aggravated malicious wounding of a law enforcement officer, three counts of assault and battery of a law enforcement officer, four counts of felony obstruction of property among others, related to the chase.

Byrns also pleaded no contest to several drug possession with intent to distribute charges.
