Brunswick rocks East Rockingham

ORANGE, Va. — In a game that determined Wise Central’s traveling plans, the Brunswick County girls overwhelmed East Rockingham 89-47 in Wednesday night’s Region 2A East championship game at Orange.

The 2A West runner-up Lady Warriors (23-5) will travel to Richmond to face the Lady Bulldogs (22-0) at VCU’s Siegel Center Friday at 6:45 p.m..

Hyper-athletic Brunswick roared out to a 30-6 lead in the first quarter. The Lady Bulldogs dominated the boards, accumulating double-digit rebounds before the Lady Eagles (20-7) collected their first.

Myneshia Walker scored 24 points to pace Brunswick. Desiray Bennett scored 23 points. Bria Stith, daughter of legendary UVa. and former NBA player Bryant Stith, scored 14 points and Juanita Eschelman fired up 11.

Lexi Dean scored 16 points to pace East Rockingham, which travels to Wise Saturday to face 2A West champ Gate City (23-2) at the Prior Center at Virginia-Wise.

The Gate City-Rockingham game is slated to tip-off at 1 p.m. Saturday. The starting time for the Wise Central-Brunswick game has yet to be announced.
