ROGERSVILLE - The Bulls Gap Middle School basketball team was honored Tuesday by the Hawkins County Board of Education for posting an all-time winning record of 19-6 in 2013-14.
The Bull Dogs placed second in the season standings, as well as second in the conference tournament, and also swept all other Hawkins County teams 8-0 for the first time. The team also placed third in the regional tournament, and reached the "Elite 8" in the state tournament.
It appears that the winning tradition may continue at Bulls Gap Middle, despite the departure of graduating eighth-graders. In another first for the school, the JV team won both its preseason and Christmas tournaments.
At the beginning of Tuesday's Hawkins County Board of Education meeting the players and coaches were presented certificates of achievement by board member Holly Helton.
"Tonight means a lot to us," said head coach David Stephens. "These boys will always have a special place in my heart. I'm proud to be here today with them, and proud to be from Bulls Gap."comments powered by Disqus
