Carl M. Cole, 58
A Wednesday morning dispute over barking dogs ended with one man transported to the hospital by ambulance — possibly with a broken jaw — and the arrest of his Kingsport neighbor on a charge of aggravated assault.
According to a Kingsport Police Department incident report, at approximately 11:15 a.m. an officer was dispatched to a fight in the 1600 block of Pineola Avenue. Upon arrival, one man was spotted walking through the back yard of a residence, while another individual yelled to police, "That's him."
The man who was walking away, Carl M. Cole, 58, of 1608 Pineola Ave., obeyed a command to stop. Upon investigation, police learned Cole and his neighbor, 64, had been engaged in an argument over Cole's barking dogs.
The alleged victim claimed Cole entered his yard during the dispute and attacked him. Witnesses corroborated his account, stating Cole knocked the other man to the ground then got on top of him and punched him repeatedly.
A reporting officer notes the victim was experiencing swelling in his face and elbow, with EMS responding to transport him to the hospital. His injuries were believed to be a broken jaw and fractured elbow.
When questioned, Cole allegedly admitted to fighting with his neighbor over the barking dogs, along with "drinking a little" earlier that morning.
Due to the severity of the victim's injuries, Cole was placed under arrest on a charge of aggravated assault and transported to the city jail.
