WISE — Virginia-Wise announced the addition of seven players to its 2014 football signing class on Wednesday, including some local talent.
Clintwood’s Tanner Brooks, a three-year starter for the Greenwave, will join the Highland Cavaliers. Brooks played on the offensive and defensive lines for coach Rick Mullins and was twice named offensive lineman of the year by his district.
Also signing with the Cavs was Tanner O’Quinn, a two-year starter at wide receiver and defensive back at Haysi, where he aided the Tigers to an undefeated regular season as a senior. The 6-foot-2, 176-pound O’Quinn finished with 57 catches for 1,127 yards and 13 touchdowns his final year, earning first team all-district, all-region, and all-state accolades.
Others headed to Wise include Greg Brown, a defensive lineman from Massaponax; strong safety Dior Dawson from Oscar Smith High School; Ed Kargbo, a team captain at South County High School; Cedrick Watkins, a three-year starter at defensive back at North Stafford; and Carlton Griffith, a defensive back and running back from Mount Vernon High School.comments powered by Disqus
