BLOUNTVILLE - The Transportation Security Administration discovered two firearms at the checkpoint at Tri-Cities Regional Airport Monday.
At approximately 2:28 p.m., a loaded .38 caliber Charter 2000 revolver with five rounds and a loaded .22 caliber Jennings semi-automatic with six rounds were discovered in a passenger’s carry-on bag.
TSA said the passenger was cited by local law enforcement.
While firearms may be transported in checked baggage, provided they are declared to the airline in a proper carrying case and unloaded, TSA noted they are prohibited in carry-on bags.
In addition to potential criminal charges, passengers who bring firearms to a checkpoint face civil penalties from TSA. This is the second and third firearm found in a carry-on bag at the checkpoint at Blountville in 2014. For more information about TSA, visit www.tsa.gov.comments powered by Disqus
