WISE — If you're game for a taste of the wild, Camp Bethel is the place to be on Saturday.
The second annual Wild Game Dinner, a Christian outreach event, will begin at the Camp Bethel gym at 9144 Camp Bethel Road in Wise at 4:30 p.m. when exhibits and booths open for display and will include vendors, clubs, game and forestry officials and mounts.
There will be a competition among the mounts in four different categories with winners decided by attendees.
The dinner will begin at 6 p.m. The main fare will be barbecue sandwiches, hot dogs, cole slaw, baked beans, green beans, mashed potatoes and the like, as well as desserts, with wild game dishes provided as "Crock Pot Luck" made by folks from the area who wish to share their culinary creations.
Pizza will be available for anyone who can't find anything else to their taste.
During dinner a wildlife biologist will provide a presentation on black bear populations and door prizes will be given out, with another presenter following dinner. The evening will wrap up with the drawing for the grand door prize, a black powder rifle with all accessories. To claim the grand prize you must be 18 and present to win.
The Wild Game Dinner is the vision of retired Virginia Game Warden Lt. Dennis Mullins as a Christian outreach event for men and women who love the outdoors. Last year's inaugural event attracted over 270 people.
Admission is $5 per person with kids under 6 admitted free. Mounts must arrive by 3:30 p.m., and the event will begin receiving mounts at 1:30 p.m. There are a limited number of tickets available and purchase in advance is recommended.
