JOHNSON CITY — East Tennessee State volleyball standout Megan Devine will travel to Colorado Springs, Colo., this weekend to attend an open tryout for the U.S. Women’s National Volleyball Team.
The tryouts start today and continue through Sunday in Sports Center II at the U.S. Olympic Training Center .
Devine, the 2012 Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Year, three-time first-team all-conference selection and AVCA All-America Honorable Mention, will be one of a record-setting 246 participants to attend this weekend’s tryout.
The former Dobyns-Bennett standout is one of 61 outside hitters in the field and ETSU will be one of 107 collegiate programs represented in the U.S. Olympic Training Center.
“I’m excited for this opportunity to be playing with the top players in the country,” said Devine. “This is an invaluable experience as I’ll be able to hear from the coaches on how to improve my game and learn what I need to work on in order to take my game to the next level.”
While Devine looks to take advantage of this event, ETSU head coach Lindsey Devine knows her daughter will take away a lot from making the trip to Colorado Springs.
“There are so many positives that Megan will experience from this opportunity,” said Lindsey Devine, who will also be in the U.S. Olympic Training Center this weekend as an evaluator.
“She aspires to extend her playing career as long as she can, so to be in this gym environment with these top level players from across the country will be rewarding on many levels.”
Megan Devine, the ETSU and A-Sun all-time record holder for kills in a career with 1,940, is just one of 27 participants who completed their collegiate eligibility and will be evaluated for spots on the U.S. National Team.
