THS swimmers earn NISCA academic recognition

BRISTOL, Tenn. — The Tennessee High swim team had a great 2013-2014 season both in the pool and in the classroom. 

The team has earned Silver and Bronze medal status in the National Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association (NISCA) Scholar Team program, coach Chris Estep said Wednesday.

The girls’ team had a cumulative GPA of 3.699 to earn the Silver Medal. The team was comprised of: Katherine Barker (9), Caroline Blackmore (12), Lexi Blakley (11), Dakota Boyd (9), Logan Carmody (10), Emma Crussell (10), Olivia Fox (9), Katie Fox (12), Tori Good (10), Aidan Haaser (10), Katie Hale (11), Gabrielle Harman (11), Kate Hornsby (10), Carli Kirchen (10), Joslyn Knox (10), Isabel Leonard (9), Caroline Leonard (10), Blakeleigh Mathes (12), Emily Matney (11), Jonna Pickard (12), Allie Schrenker (11), Kelsey Thurman (11), Gabrielle Tidwell (11) and Brittany Ziegler (12). Barker, Boyd, Carmody, Fox, Good, Haaser and Matney led the team with 4.0 GPAs.

The boys’ team had a cumulative GPA of 3.454 to earn the Bronze Medal. The team was comprised of: Jeremy Fahn (12), Maxx Gage (10), John Hogue (9), Logan Hurt (12), Morgan Johnson (11), Nick Keen (12), Chase Killian (10), Nelson Lundberg (11), Hunter Malone (11), Justin McCarty (12), Drew Moseley (9), Camden Oliviero (9), Clay Roark (11) and Noah Wampler (11). Keen and Oliviero led the team with 4.0 GPAs.

Last year, there were only nine teams (boys and girls) from Tennessee who qualified to receive this honor, Estep said in the statement announcing the honors.

The swim team competed in the 2014 Tennessee State Swimming and Diving Championships this past weekend in Nashville. Participants in the state meet from Tennessee High were Blackmore (200 free, 500 free, 200/400 freestyle relays), Fahn (diving), Fox (50 free, 100 fly, 200/400 freestyle relays), Haaser (200 free, 200 medley relay), Harman (200 medley relay), Hornsby (200 free, 200 IM, 200 medley relay), Hurt (200 and 400 freestyle relays), Johnson (100 fly, 100 breast, 200/400 freestyle relays), Lundberg (500 free and 200/400 freestyle relays), Mathes (200 free, 100 free, 200/400 freestyle relays), McCarty (50 free, 100 free, 200/400 freestyle relays), Matney (200 medley relay), Schrenker (50 free, 100 free, 200/400 freestyle relays) and Wampler (diving).
