CLINTWOOD — A 38-year-old Dickenson County man faces a first-degree murder charge following an incident along the Dismal Creek section of the county early Sunday.

Late Tuesday, the Virginia State Police charged Adam W. Stanley, of Clintwood, with first-degree murder in the death of 33-year-old Rachel N. Coleman, of Haysi, after Stanley allegedly rammed the vehicle Coleman was in with his pickup truck on Sunday.

On Monday, the VSP charged Stanley with two counts of aggravated malicious wounding and one felony count of destruction of property involving another woman in the vehicle.

The VSP reported at 2:41 a.m. Sunday, Trooper N.K. Woods was called to the scene of a two-vehicle crash in the 18,000 block of Dickenson Highway.

Woods’ investigation led to Stanley’s arrest for allegedly intentionally ramming his S-10 pickup truck into a 2000 Chevy Blazer driven by Katrina L. Bartley, 37, of Clintwood. The Blazer ran off the side of the road after being rammed by Stanley’s truck, according to the VSP.

Bartley was transported to Holston Valley Medical Center for treatment of serious but non-life threatening injuries. Coleman was found deceased at the scene in the passenger’s seat of the Blazer.

The VSP also reported late Tuesday the injuries Coleman and Bartley suffered were not related to the crash. Because the incident remains under investigation, the VSP is not releasing any additional details at this time involving the circumstances surrounding how the two women were allegedly physically assaulted by Stanley.

Stanley is currently being held in the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail in Haysi under no bond.

CLINTWOOD — The Virginia State Police have charged a 38-year old Dickenson County man with multiple charges related to an alleged vehicular ramming incident that left one woman dead and another injured early Sunday.

The VSP reported on Tuesday that Adam W. Stanley, 38 of Clintwood was arrested Monday on two counts of aggravated malicious wounding and one felony count of destruction of property, and the investigation continues into the case.

At 2:41 a.m. Sunday VSP Senior Trooper N.K. Woods was called to the scene of a two vehicle crash in the 18,000 block of Dickenson Highway. The VSP said Woods' determined a 2000 Chevy Blazer was rammed by Stanley's vehicle, a 1995 Chevy S-10 pickup truck.

Stanley was not injured in the crash, but the driver of the Blazer, Katrina L. Bartley, 37 of Clintwood, was transported to Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport. Further investigation determined that Bartley's injuries were inconsistent with the severity of the crash but she did suffer serious but non-life threatening injuries.

A passenger in the Blazer, 33-year old Rachel N. Coleman of Haysi, died at the scene of the crash.

The initial charges against Stanley stem from his alleged ramming of the Blazer and alleged aggravated malicious wounding of Bartley. Stanley is in the regional jail in Haysi under no bond. The incident remains under investigation by the VSP Bureau of Criminal Investigation's Wytheville Field Office.
