KINGSPORT — Get out and buy some chocolate. And a Valentine’s Day card. And roses. While you’re at it, take your sweetie to dinner.
That was the message Friday from Tri-Cities mayors, who by proclamation extended the Valentine Day’s holiday through Sunday and declared this weekend a “Sweetheart Weekend.”
The proclamation was read by Kingsport Mayor Dennis Phillips as he was backed by his Tri-Cities colleagues in the flowers section at the Food City on Eastman Road.
“This year the winter storm, Smochi, as officially named by The Weather Channel, decided to visit the Tri-Cities,” Phillips said. “But in response to this cold meteorological intruder to the region, hearts in the Tri-Cities are still warm, and young or old, those who want love in their hearts have an extra two days to enjoy this special time of Valentine’s Day with many merchants extending discounts and sales events through Sunday...We just feel this is a great way to do something very unique and different and hopefully help our businesses and merchants.”
