“My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you, turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding, and if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, and if you look for it as silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God.” — Proverbs 2:1-5 (NIV)
In the first Indiana Jones movie “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” the French archeologist along with the Nazis are searching for the Ark of the Covenant, which held the tablets on which the Ten Commandments were written, because they think it’s a treasure. So they are stunned (and ultimately destroyed) when they open the Ark and find not a material treasure but the very power of God. The Word of God is a treasure not because of what it will be buy but because it gives us access to the power of God, the knowledge of God. Let us seek out that Word as singlemindedly as any treasure hunter.
Prayer: Holy God, your Word is a sacred treasure and a generous gift. May we use it to seek out Your wisdom and understanding. Amen.
