More snow, more changes in NET and SWVa. basketball schedules

BRISTOL, Tenn. — Snow and basketball are not a good mix.

For the second straight day, Northeast Tennessee postseason tournaments and Southwest Virginia regular season games have been postponed or canceled due to accumulating snow.

District 1-AAA

The District 1-AAA tournament at Viking Hall was forced to move Thursday’s boys quarterfinal games. Tennessee High will now take on Sullivan Central at 6 p.m. on Friday followed by Science Hill and Volunteer at 7:30.

Weather permitting, Viking Hall will host Semifinal Saturday. Girls action begins at 2 p.m. when No. 1 Science Hill takes on Daniel Boone. The Volunteer girls meet Dobyns-Bennett in the other semifinal at 3:30.

Boys semifinal action starts at 5 p.m. Saturday when No. 1 D-B meets David Crockett. At 6:30, the winner of the Tennessee High/Central contest will take on the winner between Science Hill and Volunteer.

If all goes well on Saturday, District 1-AAA girls consolation and championship games will be held on Monday starting at 6 p.m. The boys consolation and championship contest will be held Tuesday, starting at 6.

District 1-AA

The District 1-AA tournament at Happy Valley has also been forced to move its games back a day.

Girls action in the 1-AA tournament will now resume on Friday with three contests.

Sullivan North meets Sullivan East at 5 p.m. followed by Johnson County and Sullivan South at 6:30 with the nightcap featuring Happy Valley and Unicoi County at 8 p.m.

The 1-AA boys get back under way on Saturday at 5 p.m. when Happy Valley takes on Sullivan South. Elizabethton meets Sullivan North at 6:30 followed by Johnson County and Sullivan East at 8 p.m.

Southwest Virginia

Gate City has canceled its game Thursday at Virginia High. Due to more inclement weather in the evening forecast, the junior varsity games have been dropped from Friday's Mountain District game at Wise Central in order to get the games over early. The Lady Blue Devils will take on the Lady Warriors at 4 p.m. in a varsity showdown that will be followed by the boys game.

Castlewood at Eastside girls and boys has been moved to Saturday. It will be a Super Saturday with JV girls starting at 4:30 p.m. JV boys play at 5:45 followed by girls varsity at 7 and boys varsity at 8:30 p.m.  J.I. Burton's Cumberland District super with Clintwood has also been moved to Saturday, with the junior varsity girls tipping off at 11 a.m.

Thursday's Twin Springs at Union game has also been postponed.

The Clintwood at Wise Central girls game set for Thursday was another victim of the weather. That contest has also been postponed.
