Update: 3:20 p.m.
Two teens were transported to the hospital on Wednesday following a single vehicle rollover crash in Kingsport.
It occurred at approximately 11:30 a.m. on John B. Dennis Highway. According to Kingsport Police Department Public Information Officer Tom Patton, a 2009 Scion TC coupe was traveling south near the Orebank Road overpass.
The driver, identified as a 16-year-old female, reportedly failed to maintain control. When her left side wheels entered the grass median she overcorrected, causing the car to spin.
The vehicle then reentered the median and flipped, coming to rest in northbound lanes of John B. Dennis Highway. The driver received possible injuries, according to police, while her 17-year-old female passenger received non-incapacitating injuries.
They were both transported by ambulance to Holston Valley Medical Center. Patton says more serious injury was likely avoided thanks to the use of seatbelts.
The crash snarled traffic on John B. Dennis. Southbound lanes were substantially slowed, while northbound lanes were closed for approximately an hour.
