KINGSPORT — Dobyns-Bennett track and cross country standouts Adriana Watkins, Alexa Zimmerman and Mercedes Bright have signed to continue their careers at the collegiate level.
Watkins, the 2013 TSSAA state triple jump champion will take her talents to East Tennessee State. She finished second in the state triple jump in 2012 and was on the Lady Indians second-place 4x100 meter relay team.
Watkins also finished fifth in the state pentathlon in 2013 and was fifth in the 300m hurdles. She holds the D-B school records in the triple jump, 100 and 300 meter hurdles as well as being a member of the Lady Indians school-record setting 4x100 relay.
Zimmerman will also run for the Lady Bucs at ETSU. She is a four-time All-Big 7 performer and a three-time All-Region 1 cross country runner and ran on leg on the Lady Indians 4x800 meter relay team that finished second in the state.
Bright, last season’s 100, 200 and 400 meter Big 7 Conference champion, has signed to run for UT-Chattanooga. She has earned four medals in state meet competition as a member of the Lady Indians 4x100, 4x200 and 4x400 meter relay teams. Bright also has earned a medal for her fifth-place finish at the state meet in the open 400 meters.
Additionally, Bright was a member of the 4x100 and 4x200 meter Lady Indians relay teams that set D-B school records.comments powered by Disqus
