The National Weather Service has upgraded its winter storm watch to a winter storm warning. The NWS says a snowstorm could possibly hit on Wednesday, bringing between four and six inches of accumulation across the region.

Six to nine inches is predicted for the mountains along the Tennessee/North Carolina border.

According to the NWS forecasting station in Morristown, snow will begin Wednesday morning in southeast Tennessee and work its way northward. Precipitation in our area will begin as a wintry mixture of rain, sleet and snow, but quickly change to moderate and heavy snowfall by the afternoon hours. That snowfall is expected to continue through Wednesday night.

A winter storm warning is currently in effect from Wednesday afternoon through Thursday morning. As of Tuesday morning, NWS forecasters were reporting that there's some uncertainty concerning the exact path and strength of the storm system, meaning the forecast for snow amounts may change.

Tuesday's forecast calls for party sunny skies with a high near 39. Tuesday night is expected to be mostly cloudy with a low around 22.
