“I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God made it grow. So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow” — 1 Corinthians 3:6-7. (NIV)
Good gardeners know that planting and watering are vital to having a crop. But even the best gardeners know that despite planting at the right time and feeding the seeds the right amount of nutrients and water, there’s nothing they can do to ensure that growth will happen. They just have to trust that it will. So it is with the good news of the gospel. We plant or water seeds. We have seeds planted and watered in us. We trust that God will bring about the growth that He desires for the sake of the world.
Prayer: God of all creation, You have planted in us the seed of Your Word and watered it with grace through Your Son. Bring about the growth that gives glory to Your holy name. Amen.
