“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.” — Psalm 119:105 (NIV)
When winter stays dark and dreary, it’s easy to see why we get the blues or even feel depressed. For some, the dreariness even leads to a medical condition called seasonal affective disorder, abbreviated, appropriately enough, SAD. Health-care experts say this disorder is caused by not having access to enough sunlight during the winter. A similar spiritual disorder can affect believers who don’t access God’s word on a regular basis. The word is the light that guides us in the ways God wishes us to go. We may not see a lot of sunshine anytime soon, but we can always bask in the light of God’s word, which never fails us.
Prayer: Open our hearts and minds, O Lord, to let your word illumine our lives. May it warm us and guide us all the days of our lives. Amen.
