Area churches plan worship services, revivals

Services

Pilgrim’s Rest Baptist Church, 3120 Atoka Circle, Kingsport, will hold its monthly freedom worship service at 7 p.m., Friday, Feb. 7.

Cox’s Chapel Church will hold services at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 9. David Dillion will preaching during the morning service.

Boones Creek United Methodist Church, 110 Mary St., off Highway 36, will hold a service at 10:45 a.m., Sunday, Feb. 9 with the message “God’s Valentine.”

Natural Tunnel Church, Natural Tunnel Parkway, Duffield, Va., will hold a service at 11 a.m., Sunday, Feb. 9 with Aaron Stapleton preaching.

Norton United Methodist Church, 8th Street at Virginia Avenue, will celebrate the Fifth Sunday after Epiphany, “Salt and Light Sunday,” with a worship service at 11 a.m., Sunday, Feb. 9. The church also leads weekly outreach worship at Mountain View Regional Medical Center Sundays at 10 a.m. The church also helps with the monthly Saturday singing at Mountain View, which will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 8.

Speers Ferry Church will hold services Sunday, Feb. 9 with Evan Rasnick, the inspiration behind the “God’s Got This” bracelets and T-shirts speaking about his experience in cancer at 11 a.m., and Bill Tignor preaching and Upward Way Quartet singing at 6 p.m.

Friendship Chapel Church, 300 McKenzie Drive, will hold a service at 11 a.m., Sunday, Feb. 9 with the Rev. Layton Bentley preaching.

Central Baptist Church, 301 Carver St., Kingsport, will hold a service at 11 a.m., Sunday, Feb. 9 with the Rev. Phillip L. Forney speaking. Forney served as pastor of Wheat Creek Baptist Church in Forest City, N.C., from 2004 to October 2013. Prior to accepting the call to the ministry, Forney attended East Tennessee State University where he played football and was a three-year starter at defensive end. After ETSU, he spent three years playing professional football and spent his last year with the St. Louis Cardinals in 1987.

Calvary Freewill Baptist Church, Fordtown Road, across from Miller Perry Elementary School will hold services Sunday, Feb. 9, with the Rev. John Spannagle preaching at 11 a.m., and Blood Bought, and Jeff Milsap and New Creation singing at 6 p.m.

Lynn Garden Evangelical Methodist Church will hold services Sunday, Feb. 9, with the Rev. Earl Miller preaching at both.

The JOY Service at Salem United Methodist Church will begin at 1:30 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 9, with the Dayspring band and the Rev. Billy Gillespie, retired UMW minister, preaching. The JOY service is the contemporary service at Salem, which is located at the intersection of Boozy Creek and Bloomingdale roads in the Central Heights community of Sullivan County.

Durham’s Chapel Free Will Baptist Church will hold a service at 6:30 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 9 with Jacob Horton preaching.

Revival

Mount Vernon Missionary Baptist Church, Woodland Avenue, Church Hill, will hold revival services at 6 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 9 and at 7 p.m., Monday through Thursday, Feb. 10-13, with evangelist Bud Culbertson. Special singing nightly.
