“Trust in the LORD and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart.” — Psalm 37:3-4 (NIV)
Do we take a scenic bike ride and then learn to ride a bike? Do we have a successful career and comfortable retirement and then learn marketable skills and work hard? Obviously, the answer is no. We have to learn to ride the bike before we can enjoy scenic rides. We have to learn marketable skills and work hard to have a successful career and comfortable retirement. Why, then, do we think that we can do good without first grounding our trust in God? Why do we think we can have the desires of our hearts without first making God the center of our lives? God knows us better than we know ourselves. He knows what we need and when we need it, even during the difficult times of life, if only we focus our lives and our desires own Him.
Prayer: Loving God, open our hearts to trust You alone and desire only You so that we may live God-pleasing lives and enjoy the blessing of Your presence all our days. Amen.
