GREENEVILLE — Five Kingsport resident were indicted by a federal grand jury in Greeneville earlier this month for their alleged roles in a counterfeiting conspiracy.
The grand jury returned a three-count indictment against Jordan Johnson, 20; Shannon Hawkins, 21; Tyler Monroe, 18, Ruben Suarez, 20 and Kayla White, 21, all of Kingsport, on charges of conspiracy to defraud the United States and possessing counterfeited obligations.
The indictments stem from a joint investigation conducted by the Kingsport Police Department and U.S. Secret Service.
Suarez was taken into custody on Jan. 27 before pleading not guilty to the charges in U.S. District Court in Greeneville three days later. Suarez is currently free on bond. A trial date has not been set.
Jordan and White are currently being held in state custody. Their plea hearings are set for March 6 in U.S. District Court.
Authorities are reportedly still attempting to locate Hawkins and Monroe, who have not yet been arrested.
Because their location is currently unknown, both Kingsport Police and the Secret Service are requesting that anyone with knowledge of their whereabouts contact the KPD at (423) 229-9111.
