“Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD” — Psalm 27:14 (NIV)
“Wait for the LORD.” Are there any harder words to hear in our frantic, instant messaging, have-to-be-in-touch-at-all-times crazy world? But it is exactly in the midst of this crazy world, which can eat us up and spit us out, that we need to hear these words the most. It is only when we allow ourselves to stop (OK, slow down) and open ourselves up to God that we can be given the strength and the confidence we need to face this world. The psalmist, himself facing all kinds of trouble, knew that: “Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war break out against me, even then will I be confident” (verse 3). When life seems crazy and we’re overwhelmed, we can confidently wait for the LORD to come and give us peace.
Prayer: Reigning God, give us wisdom and patience to wait for You so that we will not be conquered by the overwhelming demands of this life. Help us to confidently trust in You all our days. Amen.
