KINGSPORT — Given how competitive North managed to be in the first meeting, Sullivan South’s Three Rivers rematch with the Golden Raiders could have been fraught with treachery.
Instead, the Rebels treated their crosstown conference rival as a minor hurdle before Friday’s crucial clash with Unicoi County.
Dalton Light scored 10 of his team-leading 12 points in the first half as South pulled away for a 57-37 victory over visiting North Thursday night.
Shadowed by Rebels post Christian Comsa, Golden Raiders scoring leader Grayson Ball managed 12 rebounds, but scored only five points.
Comsa scored nine for South (13-9, 8-1), but pulled down 11 rebounds, blocked three shots and redirected several others.
Josh Booker added 11 points.
Guard Trevor Williams scored 11 points to pace North (4-14, 1-9).
In the girls game, the Lady Rebels used a balanced attack to dismantle the Lady Golden Raiders, 68-18.
Emma Carico scored 11 points to pace South (13-1, 6-3). Braden Hutchins and Haillee Clark scored 10 apiece. Morgan Seymore added nine.
Shenoah Bradley scored nine points to lead North (5-13, 0-10), which trailed 26-3 after the first quarter.
