Though the snow has passed, the National Weather Service warns bitterly cold air and hazardous travel conditions are expected to continue across the region on Wednesday.
Arctic air and clear skies allowed temperatures to drop into the single digits and below zero in the early morning hours. The NWS predicts temperatures will only warm into the lower 20s across most of the area throughout the day, with temperatures in the teens in higher elevations.
Conditions on major roads were slowly improving as of 8:30 a.m. Wednesday morning, though patches of snow and ice were still present. The NWS says the conditions were likely to persist through the day.
Motorists are urged to give themselves extra time to reach their destinations. Anyone venturing outside is reminded to wear layers of clothing and keep all of their skin covered from the elements.
