Snow, frigid temps to linger throughout Tuesday, prompt closings

Update:

- The Kingsport Aquatic Center will close on Tuesday, Jan. 28, at 1 p.m. and reopen on Wednesday, Jan. 29, at 11 a.m.

- The Renaissance Center and Senior Center will close at 2 p.m. today due to the weather. All meetings and/or activities scheduled in the building are also canceled.

- KATS will discontinue service Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at 2:30 p.m.  Please be advised the last outbound bus will leave at 1:30 p.m. In addition, if Kingsport City Schools are delayed or closed Wednesday, KATS will delay the start of routes until 9:30 a.m.

Widespread snowfall and bitter cold temperatures are forecast to remain over the region throughout the day, with between one and three inches of snow accumulation expected.

The National Weather Service in Morristown has issued a winter weather advisory for 10 a.m. Tuesday through 1 a.m. Wednesday. The NWS says accumulations will generally be light over Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia, though periods of snow covered roadways and sidewalks are possible, along with limited visibility.

As of 8:30 a.m. a wind chill advisory was set to expire at 10 a.m. Tuesday. High temperatures for the day were expected to be in the low 20s, then dip back into single digits on Tuesday night.
