BIG STONE GAP — Wellmont Health System on Monday announced upgrades to its affiliate facility in Big Stone Gap, Lonesome Pine Hospital.
Wellmont said LPH has responded to an increasing need for obstetrics services with an expansion of The Birthing Inn to provide additional comfort to patients, family members and caregivers.
The hospital has added two birthing rooms, opened a new nursery and doubled the size of the nurse station. The improvements also include a new monitoring system at the nurse station to enable staff and physicians to constantly monitor elements of birth such as fetal heart rate and frequency of contractions.
All other rooms in the birthing/obstetrics unit were given a fresh coat of paint and new hallway flooring.
“This renovation created an even warmer homelike atmosphere for the women we are privileged to serve,” said The Birthing Inn Director Della Price. “The additional space has not only enabled us to accommodate the greater use of our services, but given us the ability to more efficiently deliver our high quality care. We are thrilled to provide such a high caliber unit to the community.”For an expanded version of this article, please see Tuesday's print edition or our expanded electronic edition.
