Hawkins County BOE adopts TSBA’s 2014 legislative agenda items

ROGERSVILLE — With nearly 100 school bus routes throughout Hawkins County, the Board of Education spends hundreds of thousands of dollars every year to replaces buses that have surpassed the state maximum 15 years of usage.

Earlier this month, however, the BOE voted to adopt the Tennessee School Board Association’s legislative agenda for 2014, which, among other things, supports legislation to increase age and mileage limitations on school buses.

In November the TSBA held its annual convention in Nashville, at which time a delegation with representatives from every school board in Tennessee voted on this year’s legislative agenda.

Hawkins County BOE member Debbie Shedden, who is also vice chair of the TSBA Board of Directors, read that legislative agenda aloud to the BOE at its Jan. 9 meeting, after which the BOE voted to approve and recommend  that agenda.
