Derrick Maurice House, 31, of Castlewood, Va.
KINGSPORT — A corrections officer at Wallens Ridge State Prison in Wise County, Va., was arrested Thursday morning in a Kingsport parking lot, accused of selling prescription medication to an undercover officer.
Kingsport police report the incident occurred at approximately 11 a.m. at the Shell Station, 120 West Stone Drive. Derrick Maurice House, 31, of Castlewood, Va., had reportedly offered to sell Subutex to undercover vice officers over the phone.
Police say House then met with detectives at the convenience store, arriving in a pickup truck driven by Cheria Lynn Funk, 23, also of Castlewood. Detectives then allegedly located 11 Subutex pills inside the vehicle.
Both House and Funk were arrested and charged with sale and delivery of a Schedule III drug. Funk was also found to be driving on a suspended license, along with having outstanding warrants for violation of failure to appear and violation of probation, prompting additional charges.
Lisa E. Kinney, communications director for the Virginia Department of Corrections, confirmed to the Times-News that House is employed at Wallens Ridge in Big Stone Gap. She said he was hired in March of 2004.
