KINGSPORT — Negative economic effects of federal health care reform and other market forces apparently aren’t limited to big health care providers like Mountain States Health Alliance or Wellmont Health System.
Those effects are now being felt at your local physician’s office.
Holston Medical Group (HMG), a regional network of primary care physicians and specialists, confirmed Wednesday it will shed 25 positions.
In an emailed statement, HMG said: “HMG, unlike other health care providers both regionally and nationally, are looking for ways to be as efficient and effective as possible in the delivery of quality health care services. In an effort to accomplish this, approximately 25 administrative positions were eliminated to focus more resources on areas of direct patient care.”
HMG offered no further explanation for the move.
