Former South soccer standout overcomes injuries to win fourth title, POY award

Josh Wood, a former standout at Sullivan South, is one of only two NCAA Division III soccer players to be invited to the 2014 Major League Soccer Combine currently under way in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

The combine, which concludes Tuesday, leads up to Thursday's MLS draft.

Wood just graduated from Messiah College after helping the Falcons claim their 10th national title. He was also named player of the year by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

Wood is only the third Messiah player ever to be invited to the combine, which primarily features Division I players.

Redlands defender Richie Marquez was the other D-III player invited to participate along with the approximately 70 prospects trying to impress MLS coaching staffs and other scouts.
