WISE — West Virginia State's Bo King and Dominic Phillips each scored 32 points in a 113-111 overtime Mountain East Conference win over the Virginia-Wise men at the Prior Center.
In the women’s game, Lexy Carson scored 21 points and pulled down six rebounds in a 56-48 victory over the Highland Cavaliers.
Deon Boyce turned in 35 points and 20 rebounds for the Cavs in the losing effort. Virginia-Wise led by six with 1:50 left, but still needed a Matt Day jumper to force overtime.
Wise (7-4, 3-4) struggled from the free throw line making just 31-of-49 from the line (63 percent), while State (5-5, 2-5) connected on a cool 25-of-29 from the charity stripe (86 percent).
In the women’s game, West Virginia State trailed 40-30 with 8:20 left in the game, but went on a 15-2 run over the next three minutes to get past the Cavs.
Katie Jo Lester scored 14 points to lead Wise (6-5. 2-5). Makenzie Cluesman scored 11 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for a double-double, also sorting out six assists.
Taylor Sandidge had nine boards for the Cavs, who out-rebounded the Eagles 42-39.
India Taste and Asia Greenleaf added 10 points apiece for State (9-4, 5-2).
