An official with USATF certification knows the difference between a mark and a scratch in triple jump, one of the many nuances of track and field competition.
KNOXVILLE, TENN. — The Knoxville Youth Athletics will be hosting its second annual USA Track and Field track and field officials certification clinic at East Tennessee State University Sunday.
The clinic will be held from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the MSHA Center on ETSU’s campus, wrapping up a weekend full of track and field action at ETSU.
Friday and Saturday will find the MSHA Center ground zero for the Niswonger College Invitational and the Knoxville Youth Athletics High School Indoor Classic, events that will bring together as many as 2,000 college and high school track and field athletes.
“Our goal for the clinic is to offer the area’s track and field community an opportunity to learn the rules of the sport of track and field,” said Marty Sonnenfeldt, Knoxville Youth Athletics Director. “Certifying new officials is critical for the area as new and larger track and field events come to town.”
The clinic is open to all regardless of experience
“If you are a track fan, parent, coach or volunteer this clinic will provide everyone tools they can use in the upcoming indoor and outdoor track and field season”, Sonnenfeldt said.
