BLOUNTVILLE — By the middle of January, Sullivan County school officials hope to choose one of four consultants to do a comprehensive study of the school system’s facility needs.
Starting Jan 9, the Board of Education will interview all four consultant companies that responded to a request for qualifications for the comprehensive demographics, facilities and program study for the system.
“It’s not just a facilities study,” BOE Chairman Dan Wells said recently during an editorial board meeting at the Kingsport Times-News.
In the meantime, at least until the projected August 2014 final recommendations, past proposals to merge and close schools have been taken off the table.
The four companies in the running are Cope Associates of Knoxville, Dejong-Richter of Ohio, MGT of America of Washington state, and Red Chair Architects of Knoxville.
Dejong-Richter and MGT will be interviewed Jan. 9, Cope and Red Chair on Jan. 14.For an expanded version of this article, please see Sunday's print edition or our expanded electronic edition.
