KPD looking for suspect in Colonial Heights shooting

KINGSPORT — City police are seeking a suspect in a shooting incident that took place early Thursday morning.

The incident began when patrol officers with the KPD were dispatched to the parking lot of Perkins restaurant on Fort Henry Drive because shots had been fired, according to a press release.

While responding to the call, the officers spotted a vehicle matching the description of one leaving the scene of the incident. Officers stopped the vehicle and discovered that one of the individuals had a non life-threatening gunshot wound. The victim was transported to the hospital by Sullivan County EMS, where he was treated and released.

A witness to the incident told officers the victim went to Perkins to meet some unknown people. When the victim arrived, an altercation with one of the individuals ensued, and at some point during the fight, the victim was shot, according to the press release.

After the shot was fired, all the people involved went to their own vehicles and left the scene.

KPD detectives are trying to locate a suspect described in the press release as a white male who is 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighs 130 pounds. At the time of the incident, he was reported to be wearing a black leather jacket and a black beanie style cap. He allegedly left in a light colored four-door sedan and headed southbound on Fort Henry Drive toward Johnson City, the press release said.

Anyone who has information about the crime or might have witnessed it is asked to contact the KPD at 423-229-9429 or Central Dispatch at 423-246-9111.
