Fifth person arrested in alleged kidnapping incident

Danielle Adams

KINGSPORT — Sullivan County authorities arrested a fifth person Monday in connection with a botched drug deal and kidnapping that allegedly took place over the weekend.

Danielle Adams, 19, Allen Drive, Kingsport, was arrested by the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office on charges of simple possession and theft under $500.

Her charges stem from an alleged incident that occurred Sunday on Belsay Drive in Kingsport.

Authorities accuse Adams of fleeing with marijuana she had arranged to purchase from four local men who were arrested later the same night on kidnapping charges.

Those suspects — Jesse Shaffer, 19, of Gray; Andrew Farmer, 20, of Johnson City; Colin Kotomski, 18, of Kingsport; and James McCord, 20 of Bluff City — allegedly fired a gun at a man who met them with Adams, ordering him to tell them where she was.

The man reportedly led the four suspects to a residence located at 139 Belsay Drive, where he had been with Adams earlier that night when she allegedly arranged the drug buy.

Farmer  allegedly forced his way into the house looking for Adams while Shaffer reportedly fired a gunshot at the owner of the Belsay Drive home when he came outside.

After failing to locate Adams, the suspects allegedly ordered the man into the trunk of a car driven by McCord before leaving the scene.

The suspects were arrested on Sullivan Gardens Parkway a short time later by an officer who pulled them over while responding to the call on Belsay Drive.

The officer reportedly discovered the man in the trunk of the car during the traffic stop.

All four suspects face charges of aggravated kidnapping, evading arrest and possession of drugs for resale.

Shaffer was charged with two additional counts of aggravated assault, while Farmer also faces a charge of aggravated burglary.
