HILTONS -- Scott County authorities and Virginia State Police are investigating a house fire in Hiltons that claimed the life of a 97-year-old woman Monday morning.
The Scott County Sheriff's Office said Louella Pierson's body was discovered in a bedroom of the residence at 2700 Hiltons Highway.
According to a VSP spokeswoman, emergency responders were dispatched to a house fire with entrapment around 6 a.m Monday. VSP and Scott County investigators arrived at the scene just before 6:30 a.m.
Investigators said early Monday afternoon that they were still working to determine a cause of the fire, which completely destroyed Pierson's home.
Fire crews from the Hiltons and Gate City volunteer fire departments reportedly arrived at the residence to find it fully involved in flames, investigators said.
Firefighters were able to locate Pierson's body in the bedroom of the home before extracting it from the burning structure. She was reportedly pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities said crews worked from roughly 6 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. to extinguish the blaze.
Due to the extensive damage to the home, authorities said it would take further investigation to determine where the fire began and what caused it. Authorities said they do not suspect foul play as a possible cause.

HILTONS — The Scott County Sheriff's Office and Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal fire that occurred Monday morning in Hiltons.
Authorities confirmed that an elderly woman was found dead in the home, which was completely destroyed by the blaze.
The discovery was made after crews were dispatched at 6:24 a.m. to a house fire with entrapment in the 2700 block of Hiltons Highway.
The name of the woman who died was not immediately available late Monday morning.
Volunteer firefighters from Hiltons and Gate City responded to the blaze.
Authorities said they do not believe the fire was caused by foul play. .
