KINGSPORT — The Kingsport Police Department on Thursday released the name of a Hawkins County man who died in a fatal collision on Interstate 26 two days before Christmas.

A KPD spokesman said Frederick T. Grevell, 57, of Church Hill, was killed when his Kia Rio was struck nearly head on by a tractor-trailer at Mile Marker 9 on I-26.

Police said the accident occurred at about 1:35 p.m. on Dec. 23 when a westbound tractor-trailer driven by John D. Bailey, 46, of Jonesborough, lost control, crossed the interstate median and collided with Grevell’s vehicle.

Bailey reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries in the accident.

An investigation of the crash by the KPD Traffic Unit is ongoing. No charges have been filed.
