BRISTOL, Tenn. — Sullivan South was able to hold United Faith Christian Academy in check for most of the way, but after a cold snap midway through the second half, the Rebels came one play short of knocking off the Falcons in the first round of the Arby’s Classic on Thursday.
South led for most of the way, but lost the lead after a cold snap in the fourth quarter. The Rebels rallied to tie it back up at 53, but Nehemiah Mabson hit a layup with three seconds left to give the Falcons a 55-53 victory.
South had one final chance, but Christian Comsa was unable to hit a shot from the half-court stripe as time expired. Will Blair led the way for South with 16 points and eight rebounds. Dalton Light had 13 points and Comsa chipped in with nine points and seven boards for the Rebels, who will face Sullivan East in losers’ bracket action Friday at 2:30 p.m.
Mabson led United Faith, which hails from Charlotte, N.C., with a game-high 21 points. Ty Gadsen added 19 points for the Falcons.
