A nearly head-on crash killed a motorist Monday afternoon on Interstate 26, according to a news release from Kingsport Police Department Public Information Officer Thomas M. Patton.
According to the release, the KPD responded to the crash at mile marker 9 at about 1:30 p.m.
An investigation revealed a westbound tractor-trailer had a blowout on its front left tire, causing the driver to lose control.
The tractor-trailer struck a guardrail, crossed the median, broke through the cable barrier and entered the eastbound lanes.
A Kia 4-door sedan was eastbound on I-26 and was struck nearly head-on by the tractor-trailer, according to the release.
The driver of the Kia was killed in the collision.
No further information was being released, pending completion of the investigation and notification of next of kin.
