ROGERSVILLE — The number of children being served by the Rogersville based Of One Accord ministry’s “Christmas for the Children” program has been hovering around 1,000 for the past several years.
Although the numbers aren’t changing, Ministry director Sheldon Livesay said Monday that the families being served by the program seem to be struggling financially more this year than ever before.
This year the program provided Christmas presents and parties for 922 Hawkins County Children, as well as another 21 children from Hancock County.
Most of those gift bags were handed out at 23 parties hosted by churches, businesses or community organizations across Hawkins County, as well as one party in Hancock County.
There were also 41 elderly Hawkins County residents who received gifts from the Senior Santa program, and approximately 1,500 Christmas food boxes were distributed to eligible families.
