GATE CITY — Relentless defensive pressure is the calling card for the Gate City Lady Blue Devils.
On Friday, in a non-district clash with visiting Lebanon, Gate City forced 32 turnovers and cruised to an impressive 67-27 win.
“The things we do on defense turn into positive things on the other end of the court,” said Lady Blue Devils’ senior Jordan Gose, who finished with a game-high 18 points. “We have such a deep bench everyone can work hard and know that someone will be there to back them up.”
Gate City (5-1) held the Lady Pioneers (6-4) to just one free throw in the first quarter. By the time Lebanon scored its first basket with 3:21 left in the first half, the Lady Blue Devils held a commanding 23-4 lead.
The Lady Blue Devils substituted freely and were rewarded with 31 points off their bench. Eleven of the 13 Gate City players who entered the contest got in the scoring column.
Morgan Gose added 10 points for the Lady Blue Devils. Hannah Cox led Lebanon with nine points.
