DUFFIELD — A Southwest Virginia woman was charged with reckless driving Wednesday after she nearly drove through the window of a Scott County dollar store while trying to park her car.
Virginia State Police said no one in the vehicle or store was injured in the accident, which occurred around noon at the Dollar General located at 354 Duff-Patt Highway.
A VSP trooper said Diana Delavega was attempting to park her 2001 Mercedes Benz SUV when she applied too much gas and drove over a parking block and onto the sidewalk in front of the store. Police said the SUV struck several display items and shoved a table through the store’s front window, causing it to shatter.
The crash reportedly caused approximately $3,500 in damage to the store and another $1,500 in damage to the SUV.
Police said the incident was caused by driver error.
The Duffield Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to the scene to assist state police.
