St. Jude donations stolen from Kingsport drive-through

Money intended for children with catastrophic diseases has been stolen from a downtown Kingsport business, where someone allegedly reached through a window to swipe a donation jar.

On Monday night, Kingsport police were contacted by an employee of Seaver's Bakery, 719 E. Center St. An officer was told that sometime between 9:30 and 9:45 p.m. the drive-through window had been opened from the outside.

An individual is believed to have then reached inside to grab a donation jar for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.  A police report says the jar contained approximately $50 in cash and coins.

The employee reporting the theft had no suspect information. A manager was going to review security camera footage.

On Tuesday morning, Kingsport Police Department Public Information Officer Tom Patton said detectives were just beginning to investigate the theft. At that time, no additional information on the incident was available.
