KINGSPORT — Kingsport’s annual Christmas Tree Lighting Celebration will kick off at 5 p.m. Saturday in Downtown Kingsport at Church Circle. Santa is slated to arrive at 5:30 p.m. in the Regions Bank parking lot. He will talk with children and pose for photographs at the Snowflake Village inside Regions Bank until 8 p.m.
In addition to Santa’s visit, Regions Bank is sponsoring the 9th annual Gingerbread House Decorating Contest. The Gingerbread House Contest winners will be announced on stage at 6:45 p.m., and the houses will be on display inside Regions Bank.
The annual Ugly Christmas Sweater Contest will take place on stage at 5:45 p.m. and winners will be decided by crowd applause. The winner of this contest will receive a $50 gift card to Downtown Kingsport and a trophy for the bragging rights of the ugliest Christmas Sweater in Kingsport.
The Dobyns-Bennett High School Marching Band is set to march to Church Circle around 6:15 p.m. Jamen Denton with Wise Old River is scheduled to take the stage at Church Circle at 6:30 p.m.
TriSummit Bank will be offering hot cider and gingerbread cookies while passing out candles at 6:30 p.m. for the candlelight ceremony, gearing up for the grand celebration at 7 p.m.
After the Christmas tree has been lit, Northeast State Community College will host an Acoustic Christmas show with Wise Old River and the Rose Sisters in the auditorium at the Kingsport Center for Higher Education sponsored by Northeast State’s Cultural Activities Committee.
The event is free, however Northeast State’s Service Club is asking those who attend to bring a toy for children of any age.
In addition, LampLight Theatre will present “The Indescribable Gift — The Story of St. Nicholas.” The cost of the event is $10 for adults, $5 for students and children under 6 are admitted free.
