KINGSPORT — A freshman made the biggest splash on Senior Night at the Dobyns-Bennett Aquatic Center.
Owen Devine cruised to a school record time of 2:17.53 in the 200 meter individual medley on Thursday. His winning time in the event broke the 2009 record of 2:17.71 set by Stuart Owens.
Devine, the younger brother of former D-B and ETSU volleyball standout, Megan Devine, has been chasing the record all season.
“It took a lot of determination but getting that record is what I wanted,” said Devine, who came into the race with a personal best within 1 second of the record. “I was hyped up to break it on Senior Night and show the team what I had.”
Devine also won the 400 freestyle (4:51.32) and swam the anchor leg on the Indians’ winning 400 free relay. For an expanded version of this article, please see Friday's print edition or our electronic edition.
