WISE — A Wise County Sheriff’s Office investigation into a gunshot fired into an occupied dwelling in the Rocky Fork section of the county was still under way Wednesday.
Deputies responded Tuesday after receiving a call at 8:02 p.m. from residents at 7233 Rocky Fork Road, a rural area located north of the town of Wise and U.S. Route 23. Wise County Sheriff Investigator Sgt. Duane Phillips said deputies arrived at the scene about 15 minutes after receiving the call.
“At this time, it’s still under investigation,” Phillips said early Wednesday. “At the scene there appears to be a bullet hole at the double-wide the gentleman lives in and we’re trying to determine where it came from and why it’s on his house.”
There were four or five people in the home at the time, including some teenage occupants. Phillips said the homeowner, Daniel Kilgore, told investigators he was playing video games in the master bedroom when a shot slammed through an exterior wall into the room.
Phillips confirmed deputies were in that area earlier Tuesday in response to a dispute between neighbors. Wise County Sheriff Ronnie Oakes told the Times-News on Tuesday night that he believed the dispute earlier in the day involved a “squabble” over a vehicle.
“There was a civil disturbance between neighbors earlier that evening,” Phillips said Wednesday. “At this time we are not able to say (the shooting) is related to that or not.”
Investigators were to return to the Kilgore residence Wednesday “to look for more evidence and investigate further,” Phillips said.
