Cerebral E&H quarterback is Academic All-American again

TOWSON, Md. – Senior quarterback Kyle Boden has been selected to the 2013 Capital One Academic All-America Division III Football Second Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Boden is the first Emory & Henry football player to earn Academic All-America honors in back-to-back years. Justin Call, men's basketball player who graduated in 2004, is the only other Wasp to be named Academic All-America in multiple years.

Boden holds a 3.985 grade point average, double majoring in biology and chemistry. He has the sixth-highest GPA of the 2013 Academic All-Americans. Boden is a three-time First-Team Academic All-District V selection and won the ODAC Scholar-Athlete Award for the second year in a row earlier this fall.

Boden's academic performance is not only in an elite group amongst Division III football players, but all college students across the country. Last month, Boden learned that he was a finalist for the prestigious Rhodes Scholarship, which covers the expenses for a graduate degree at Oxford University in England. While he did not earn the scholarship, he was the College's first finalist in 109 years.

Outside of the classroom, Boden is known across campus as a student leader. He is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the Hermesian Debate Society, Blue Key Honor Society and served as the student representative on the College's Presidential Search Committee.

The Karns High School graduate threw for 2,531 yards and 21 touchdowns going 217-for-328 this past season. He is the only E&H signal caller to pass for over 2,500 yards in multiple years, eclipsing the mark for the past three seasons. Boden had five games with three or more passing touchdowns including five against Methodist, earning him National Quarterback of the Week honors from D3football.com.

For his career, Boden has thrown for 7,620 yards (second in E&H history) and holds the record with 724 career completions. He holds the school record for completions in a game (51) and in a season (256), set during the 2011 campaign. Boden also has two of the top four performances in passing yards, twice throwing for over 380 yards.
